This past week, Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) conducted their first ever fall safety “Stand-Down.” During this time, employers in the construction industry were encouraged to find time in their days to stop work, spending this time instead to educate and train workers in workplace fall safety, including inspecting equipment, developing rescue plans, assessing and eliminating fall hazards, and more.
At Qualcraft Industries, part of our company mission is working to educate the workforce in order to help save lives. The Guardian Fall Protection training department is a primary vehicle we use to achieve this goal, and when Guardian's trainers teach their classes or go out to jobsites to meet workers, the first element they stress is the importance of “buying in” to the importance of fall protection.
If people don’t buy in, then even if they wear the right equipment, they open themselves up to making mistakes: maybe employers will lapse in implementing an effective rescue plan; maybe workers won’t attach to their anchor point immediately after climbing up to their work surface; maybe equipment won’t be inspected according to the manufacturer’s specifications. Any of a wide range of scenarios could result in worker injury or death.
And promoting the importance of buying in is exactly what OSHA’s Stand-Down week is working to achieve. It is OSHA’s goal to keep workers safe, and by encouraging employers to spend a week focusing on the dangers of fall hazards, they are doing just that.

One death from a fall is too much, let alone the hundreds that occur on jobsites every year. At Qualcraft, we want every worker to go home to their family every night, and go to their job in the morning confident that they will be safe and productive.
In support of the Stand-Down, the training department at Guardian Fall Protection is proud to offer a discount on their open enrollment Competent Person training classes!
